As a wedding photographer in Port Douglas I have so many beautiful locations right on the doorstep. And sometimes I get to go a little further afield to more stunning places.
Cape Tribulation is a 2 hour drive from Port Douglas. The day I drove up to meet Janneke and Pieter, was a typical summer afternoon in the tropics. Warm, cloudy, and threatening rain. Perfect skies for wedding photos!
You need to cross the Daintree River by ferry. (Why is the biggest warning on the crocodile sign always in German?)
Over the river there is no electricity. This is the Daintree rainforest.
Janneke and Pieter had already married in Holland, and were driving around Australia in a van. I found them at 5.30pm, in their little cabin at Cape Trib Beach House.
They had contacted me before they left on their trip to photograph their private ceremony, on the beach at Cape Trib. Just the two of them, vowing their love for each other in the oldest rainforest on the planet…
We wandered down the beach for a few wedding portraits
Cape Tribulation beach is stunning, and perfect for photos.
Pieter & Janneke met in highschool, but were both too shy to approach each other and lost contact after school.
They met again a few years later, and, well now they are married.
They read wedding vows to each other under the big tree
The best thing about having your own ceremony is you can kiss whenever you want.
Pieter had bought a paper candle balloon. There wasn’t much breeze but we did deliberate for a while over whether to release it. We decided they should, but not let it get away, just in case…
It was getting dark by now, so we had a quick play with sparklers.
At dusk in a rainforest in summer, you are joined by a few unwelcome visitors. One of whom sat on my lens for a while.
I’m very impressed at Janneke’s first attempt to write in the sky, backwards, with a sparkler. Very very neat!
It was an absolutely beautiful few hours spent with two lovely people, very much in love. I’m glad I met them.
